She calls herself Dakota because it sounds American. But she confessed to me one day: "My real name is Marika."

It's to my marketing coach that I want to dedicate the last newsletter of the year. She's my Cristina Cordula when she calls me "Darling Baby" and my Cyril Lignac when she gets annoyed and her Toulouse accent takes over. Sometimes I find her advice ridiculous, too far removed from my "Brand Identity" (she's the one who taught me that concept). But I have to say, when I follow her advice, the website gets more visitors and we sell better. I pay her, yet we're just friends, and I hope that in 2023 we'll become just friends. I hope so even more now that I know a little more about her personal story. I discovered her real, real first name when we were playing a game of guessing our faces on the day we got our driver's licenses. Dakota, aka Marika, is actually named Marie Caroline.

I laughed. She didn't.

"But look, that's very bourgeois, Marie Caroline."

"Don't say that, darling baby. It was my mother who read in Télé Z that compound first names lead to better success in life. Since I was made fun of at school, I chose Marika."

Sometimes too much intimacy makes me uncomfortable. So I avoid it.

"Okay, shall we get to work, Dakota?"

"Yes, darling baby! Do you know about gamification?"

"Um, no, can you explain it to me in French?"

"OK, let me explain. The idea is to keep customers on your site by having them play a game to find hidden promo codes."

"But we already had a promo code: HAPPYBDAYB, valid until tomorrow. I don't really see the connection."

"Let me explain. In 2023, you're going to hide the promo codes on your website. In blog articles, or by offering riddles, maybe rebuses."

"Ah! A bit like a treasure hunt?"

"Yeah Baby! You're not that dumb. Come on! Promise me you'll start on January 1st when the current code expires. OK?"

"OK! Check!"

I can't believe it, I said "Check". Maybe that's the beginning of friendship, when you start talking like each other.
